IPv6 address text representation Filed Under: Networks
As IPv6 is starting to be used more often across networks, the big problem is that now IPv6 addresses are much longer than IPv4 and in addition they have introduced multiple ways of representing the same address in different ways. This flexibility in representation will at the end of the day start confusing people (both technical and non-technical) unless they are very much used to see IPv6 address.
Well this RFC looks at this problems and provides a common way to represent IPv6 addresses so at least there is a better common ground for everyone and it will help people to better understand IPv6 addresses.
